    Description

    a Mercedes 450sl steering wheel modified with a real wood rim. this wheel came from a 1976 model year. i think it will fit thru 1979 models. it has the smaller diameter shaft.
    i removed the rubber material from the wheel ring and replaced it with real wood. the wood is Baltic Birch cabinet grade plywood for stability. the ring is made by routing 2 rings and sandwiching them around the steel wheel ring. after a lot of shaping and hand sanding the rim is ready for a faux walnut burl staining technique. there are some You Tube videos on how to do this. the wheel is then clearcoated with an exterior polyurethane and polished.
    i have done a couple of wheels for a Jaguar so i thought i would try this for a Mercedes.
    a very nice wheel and much cheaper than the ones made overseas.
    no hornpad is included. just use the one you have.
